Washington's mandatory DUI penalties are harsh.
Mandatory Jail.
Many of our WA DUI clients are surprised to learn that even a first time DUI offender will be sentenced to jail if convicted. Indeed, a Washington DUI conviction will result in a mandatory jail sentence of at least one or two days. Our Washington DUI lawyers will aggressively fight to protect your legal rights and keep you out of jail.
Additionally, it this is your second Washington DUI charge within the last seven years, the mandatory jail required to be imposed increases dramatically.
For example, if this is your second DUI conviction within the last seven years, you will be sentenced to a mandatory minimum of either thirty or forty-five days. Our Washington DUi attorneys have extensive experience handling cases involving second and third-time offenders where the stakes are very, very high.
Mandatory License Suspension.
Every Washington DUI conviction will also result in your Washington State driving privileges being suspended for a minimum of ninety days to one year. This suspension is separate and independent from the potential suspension you face under Washington's Implied Consent law.
If your license is suspended, our Washington DUI attorneys can assist you in obtaining an Ignition Interlock Device License, which will continue to allow you to continue legally driving. A Washington DUI conviction will result in a mandatory Ignition Interlock Device installation.
Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Assessment and Treatment.
A Washington conviction for Driving Under the Influence will also result in your being required to obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow all treatment recommendations.
Additionally, a WA State DUI conviction will result in your being ordered to attend a Victim Impact Panel. This is a one time "educational" seminar where people whose lives have been dramatically impacted by drunk drivers talk to you about the potential consequences of drinking and driving.
Mandatory Fines, Costs, AssessmentsA Washington DUI conviction will result in fines, costs, assessments, and probation fees ranging from a minimum of $850 up to $2,500.
